Why do I do it?

That is my question. I thought I would throw it out there and see if anyone has any idea why I do it. What is it? I want to say procrastination but it's more than that. Why can't I write anything until the night before it's due? I will sit down two months, a month, half a year even, the week before and I'm unable to think clearly enough to write. The only time I have no trouble writing is the night before it's due. My brain is sharp and clear, I'm disciplined and focused and the words flow from my head to the keyboard. No problem. But if I sat down before the due date, nothing!

Is it adrendline? Do I need it to write?

Procrastination is such a nasty thing. I hate it ... and one day I'm going to do something about it.

Wow! You must be in my brain. I've had that affliction for years. When I was in college, I could NOT come up with a decent paper until the absolute last minute. I even tried - really hard - once. I got a B or a C. The rest were A's. Go figure.

Now I write for our ladies' ministry newsletter at church and I'm in the same boat. I pray and write and try to come up with something early. Alas, it's never any good until just in time for the deadline. I'm not sure why I excel in a crunch. I just wish I could also do it a bit more leisurely.

I know - that's no answer to your question. Maybe there's comfort in not being the only member of the club.

I'm the same way too. It's impossible for me to write anything unless it's at the last minute. If I write in advance everything is a big mush. If I write last minute everything flows nicely. It must be an affliction that only smart people have, right? :)

I did the same thing at Charleston Southern University. I always got A's so it did not hurt my performance. Like you, when I sat down the night before and wrote all night, I turned out good work. I did, however, manage to have all my research done ahead of time. It's just the writing that always happened the night before it was due. Often I'd be proofing and printing an hour before class!

Well, at least I'm in good company. Is it a blogger thing?

Ron, I was doing that on Tuesday :-)

I think I'll second Chris' comment - "It must be an affliction that only smart people have." Sounds good to me!! LOL!

If we were so smart, wouldn't we learn a way not to do it since we all know that we should do it.

    SIGH...

I am still typing a "sermon" outline due tomorrow by noon. I have on-line class from 9-11. Guess who will be up at 6 to work until class starts...

My problem is that I don't get big chunks of time to work on projects, and for writing, I really have to be in the zone (which means -- no meals, laundry, shopping, errands, chauffeuring, family, friends...) yeah right. Like that happens.

SOoooo - I am up late typing.

    sigh again...

OK pity party over - bedtime!

And what are you doing reading blogs? I'm working on Greek right now. I have to be ready for a test by May of Galatians and a tiny part of Acts and I'm only on chapter 1 :-)
